Provides instruction in the basics of network security in depth. Includes security objectives, security architecture, security models and security layers; risk management, network security policy, and security training. Includes the five security keys, confidentiality integrity, availability, accountability and auditability.
Lecture 3 hours per week.
- Network security basics, security architecture, and security models
- Network security planning, risk management and policy
- Network security vulnerabilities, attacks, and attack characteristics
- Network security defensive technologies
- Network security administration and organization
- Legal, privacy, and ethical issues
Prerequisite: ITN 109; ITN 154 and ITN 155 or verified current CompTIA Network+ / Cisco CCENT certification
Textbooks for the class:
Attendance is expected in both in-class meetings and participation in Canvas. Students are expected to attend every scheduled face-to-face class meeting and to enter Canvas weekly. When absence from class becomes necessary, please attempt to inform the instructor ahead of time. Students are responsible for all material missed in class due to an absence. Any instruction missed and not subsequently completed either in-class or on Canvas will necessarily affect the grade of the student regardless of the reason for the absence.
